Hi Casey, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started out doing hair by experimenting on myself and willing friends. From cutting hair with hole punchers, to cheetah print mohawks, I’ve gotten to bring so many creations from vision to reality in my 20 years of doing hair. A little over a decade ago, I decided to take all of the knowledge from mentors that had taught me, and salons I worked in, and took the plunge to open my own salon. I did a lot of market research to see where would be a good location, price comparisons, forecasting my cost of goods, etc. I ended up at a Sola Salon suite in Carlsbad, about 15 mins away from the salon I had been working at in San Marcos. Thankfully, my excellent customer service and quality of service allowed me to retain most of my clientele, and MOD Hair Salon was born. I was able to stay in that location for about 4.5 years until I began to outgrow it and look for a place to put down some real roots. A little standalone cottage just on the outskirts of the soon to be remodeled downtown Vista was waiting for me on Craigslist, saw it and signed the lease immediately.
Salon Parking Update/Devita Promotion and More! 7/28 Newsletter
A few little quickies!
Hi everyone! How is summer treating you all?
Just wanted to send out a quick update on the salon going's-on's!
First things first- please park in front of the salon only! We had an event at the salon recently which resulted in the neighbors next door towing people that attended. The lot, (on the corner of Pala Vista and S Santa Fe) even though it is only marked in two spots "no parking," should be avoided until we figure out what the deal is. If you need help backing out of your spot, just let your stylist know and we are more than happy to help!
Big Things Are Happening at MOD!
2024 was a very transformative year for the MOD! For the last 11 years, I have worked primarily as the only stylist in the business, with the exception of two booth renters and an assistant. When I decided to become a commission salon last year and hire employees, it was not a decision that I took lightly. I sought help from hairstyling coaches, salon owner's networking groups and financial and tax professionals, read books about CEO mindsets, joined local small business owners networking groups, went to seminars regarding social media and hair photography, and went to live hair education. Through all of this, I have started to hire a team of professionals based on personality, merit, desire to learn and grow, and people who want to be a part of a team. MOD is a very small and cozy space and I want you to know where my decision making was coming from as I decided to being people into our little salon home. The next time you're in, you might notice that the salon feels a little more lively, and see some new faces and talent!
